Requirements for running OpenEdge applications

Table 2–2 lists minimum requirements for running OpenEdge applications.

Component
Requirement
Terminal
A character terminal attached to a host computer.

Note: OpenEdge does not support spacetaking terminals unless the terminal has a firmware setup option to change it to nonspacetaking mode.

Libraries
Networking libraries must be installed on your machine.
Multi-user OpenEdge configurations connect UNIX-to-UNIX through the OpenEdge-supported network protocol TCP/IP. You can also connect to a UNIX server from a Windows client through TCP/IP.
JDK
Installed JDK components. See Table 2–1 for the current version releases.

Product and application dependencies

Additional requirements might exist, depending on the applications you plan to run and/or the OpenEdge products you plan to install. For example, you might need any or all of the following elements:

File descripters

You must allocate sufficient file descripters to handle all the WebSpeed Agents your configuration uses. Set the file descriptors to 1024 by entering the following command:

ulimit -n 1024
